Hair Care Tips
Hair is often looked at as a way to measure a person’s overall health. While hair can indicate if a person is healthy or not, it is also important for you to take care of your hair. Without proper hair care, your hair may look a lot less healthy than it probably should. Here are some of the basic hair care tips that anyone should know about.
1. It is important to never use a brush when you hair is wet. Always use a comb, or you will experience hair breakage. When there is no comb on hand, you will want to wait until it is dry before you even attempt to brush it.
2. Try to avoid blowing your hair dry or using styling tools that use heat (such as hot roller, a curling iron or a flat iron) on a daily basis. Over exposure to heat from these products can cause hair damage.
3. Avoid dying your hair different colors on a regular basis. If you are going to make an extreme switch, such as from blonde to black, you will want to do it gradually.
4. Be sure to use a good moisturizing conditioner. Although this should be a top priority of people who dye their hair, everyone should moisturize their hair to prevent dry scalp problems, which can lead to dandruff.
5. Use a clarifying shampoo and/or conditioner on a weekly basis. This is especially important during the summer if you go to the pool, due to chlorine exposure. However, many people have certain percentages of chlorine in their water at home, so it is important to clarify all year round.
6. Avoid wearing ponytails on a regular basis. When you do make the decision to wear them, it is a good idea to opt for a loose scrunchy rather than a tight elastic band. This will reduce breakage that ponytails can cause.
7. You may want to consider choosing hairstyles that do not require you to style them as much. Short or medium length are great options. This may help in reducing the heat damage that hair can often suffer from.
8. Eating a healthy diet can help in the prevention of hair loss. If you continue to experience hair loss, be sure to visit your primary care physician. You may be suffering from a medical condition, such as diabetes or hypothyroidism, that can cause hair loss.
9. Keep in mind that the sun can cause damage to your hair. You may want to invest in a leave-in conditioning product that also contains sunscreen. Try to cover up your hair as much as possible when you go outdoors.
10. Be sure to wash your hair as much as it requires you to. It is recommended that you only wash your hair once every two days. However, if your hair becomes very oily if you do not wash it, then you will want to wash it every day. You will probably be able to tell how often is the right amount for your hair.
